Acrobat AI Assistant alternative: who to pick, and where UniqAI loses
Acrobat is built to edit, sign and prepare PDFs, and its AI Assistant sits on top.
Updated
Why do people look for an Acrobat AI Assistant alternative?
Three reasons come up most.
The AI Assistant is not in every plan. On Adobe's pricing page on 2026-11-03, Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro did not include it. Acrobat Studio did. The page lists no separate AI Assistant add-on, so getting it means moving to the dearest individual plan.
The price is for a whole suite. If you read PDFs and ask questions but never edit or sign them, you pay for a lot you do not use.
Commitment terms. The cheapest monthly figures are on an annual plan billed monthly. Adobe's page says that cancelling such a plan after 14 days costs half the remaining annual commitment.
If you edit, sign and fill forms every week, none of this may matter, and Acrobat is likely the right pick. UniqAI is one option on this page, and it loses on several points, which we say plainly below.
How Acrobat plans and UniqAI compare
| Tool and plan | Price | AI Assistant included? | File limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acrobat Standard | 18,60 EUR/mo on an annual plan billed monthly; 220,15 EUR/yr prepaid; 31,00 EUR/mo month to month | No | Not applicable, no AI Assistant |
| Acrobat Pro | 24,59 EUR/mo on an annual plan billed monthly (12,29 EUR/mo for the first 3 months for new subscribers); 293,58 EUR/yr prepaid; 36,89 EUR/mo month to month | No | Not applicable, no AI Assistant |
| Acrobat Studio | 31,00 EUR/mo on an annual plan billed monthly; 368,99 EUR/yr prepaid; 43,39 EUR/mo month to month | Yes | AI Assistant: file under 100 MB, up to 600 pages, no password or usage restrictions, not a PDF Portfolio; prompts under 500 characters; Adobe says server settings decide the limits and may change them |
| UniqAI | Weekly $6.99, Annual Pro $59.99/year, Annual Pro+ $119.99/year (US dollars); PDF chat from 1 Gem a message | PDF chat is part of every plan; 30 Gems on sign-up; Compare needs a paid plan | About 5.7 MB per PDF, up to 4 files per message, text PDFs only (no OCR); free plan reads about 8,000 input tokens a message |
Prices checked 2026-11-03. Adobe's page was served in euro, including VAT, for individuals, so check your country. Adobe's business plan, Studio for teams, was 30,24 EUR/mo per licence excluding VAT, annual billed monthly. UniqAI prices are in US dollars. Currencies differ, so compare by plan structure, not by a single number.
Who should pick Acrobat?
Pick Acrobat if PDFs are something you produce, not only something you read.
- Editing, signing and forms. These are Acrobat's core job. UniqAI does none of them.
- Scans and OCR. If you work with scanned paper, Acrobat is built for that kind of file. UniqAI has no OCR.
- Print-ready files. If a PDF has to go to a printer or a client in a fixed state, use the tool made for that.
- Large files. Adobe's help page allows files under 100 MB and up to 600 pages for the AI Assistant. That is far above our 5.7 MB.
If you already pay for Acrobat Studio, the AI Assistant is included, and a second tool buys you little.
Who should pick UniqAI?
Pick UniqAI if your PDF work is mostly reading and asking.
- One subscription for more than PDFs. The same plan covers chat, images and video, so PDF questions do not need a separate bill.
- A choice of models. The fast tier (1 Gem a message) has GPT-4o mini, Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite and DeepSeek V4 Flash. The smart tier (5 Gems) has Claude Haiku 4.5, GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Gemini 2.5 Pro and Grok 4.3.
- Free merge, split, rotate and reorder. These run in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
- A lower entry price for reading only. The yearly plans are $59.99 and $119.99, with a weekly option at $6.99. The currencies differ from Adobe's euro prices, so read the plan structure, not just the numbers.
- Actions beyond chat. Summarize, translate, explain, tables to CSV, study notes and compare. Every answer has Copy and "Download .md" buttons.
Where does UniqAI lose?
Four places, and they matter.
No editing, signing or forms. UniqAI cannot change the text of a PDF, add a signature or fill a form. If you need any of that, you still need an editor.
No OCR. The tool reads the text layer only. A scan or a photo of a page gives no usable text, and the model is told to say so.
Smaller files. About 5.7 MB per PDF, up to 4 files per message. Adobe's help page lists under 100 MB and up to 600 pages for its assistant.
Compare needs a paid plan. The free plan reads about 8,000 input tokens a message, which is too small for two documents.
We would rather you know this before you sign up.
How do I test which one fits my work?
Spend one ordinary month of PDF work as a tally, before you pay for anything.
- Count the jobs. Each time you open a PDF, mark whether you read it, asked it a question, edited it, signed it or filled a form.
- Check the file. Note its size and page count. Check for a password or usage restrictions, because Adobe's help page says the AI Assistant does not work with those. Check that it has real text, by trying to select a sentence.
- Run one real question on a short file. Pick a figure you already know and see whether the answer quotes the page.
If most marks fall under editing, signing or forms, Acrobat is the answer. If most fall under reading and asking, a lighter tool may cover it. For habits that make any answer easier to check, see how to chat with a PDF.
Questions about Acrobat AI Assistant alternative
Is the AI Assistant included in Acrobat Pro?
Not on Adobe's pricing page on 2026-11-03. Acrobat Standard and Pro did not include it, and Acrobat Studio did. The page listed no separate add-on. Plans and prices vary by country, so check yours.
What are the file limits of Acrobat's AI Assistant?
Adobe's help page says a file under 100 MB, up to 600 pages, with no password protection or usage restrictions, and not a PDF Portfolio. Prompts must be under 500 characters. It needs an internet connection and an Adobe ID. Adobe says server settings decide the limits and may change them.
Does the AI Assistant read images?
Adobe's help page says it does not support images or complex vector graphics. We did not find anything on that page about scans, so we cannot say how it handles them.
Can UniqAI edit or sign a PDF?
No. It cannot edit, sign or fill forms. It reads the text layer to chat, summarize, translate, explain, make tables, write study notes and compare. Merge, split, rotate and reorder run free in your browser.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Acrobat AI Assistant?
If you only read PDFs and ask questions, possibly. UniqAI's plans start at $6.99 weekly or $59.99 a year, in dollars, against Adobe's euro prices. You lose editing, signing, forms and OCR, and files are limited to about 5.7 MB.
