How it works
Add your PDF
Open the tool (it may ask you to sign in) and drop in a text PDF.
Pick language and pages
Choose the target language. For a long file, set a page range such as pages 1-5.
Read and repeat
Read the translation, then run the next range. Each run is one message.
What do I get back?
You get the translated text, with headings and lists kept. You don't get a translated PDF. Columns, tables as drawn, images with captions and page design are not preserved, so the result reads like a clean text document.
The target can be your app language or one of 12: English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese and Japanese. Translation defaults to Claude Haiku 4.5.
How do I translate a long PDF?
One answer is capped at about 1,500 words (2,048 tokens; on the free plan, smart models get 1,024). A 30-page file won't come back in one go, so translate it in page ranges: pages 1-5, then 6-10, and so on.
To cut ranges ahead of time, use split-pdf. It runs on your device and uploads nothing. The tool also cuts your chosen range on your device before sending, so only those pages leave it. More in translate a PDF you can't read.
Instructions to try
Translate pages 1-5 into English. Keep the headings and lists. Don't summarize or leave anything out.
Use the tool aboveTranslate into German, but leave product names and part numbers exactly as written.
Use the tool aboveTranslate into French in a formal register, suitable for a letter to an office.
Use the tool aboveTranslate into Spanish. Where the original is ambiguous, keep your best reading and put a note in brackets.
Use the tool aboveTell me in English what pages 1-3 say, then translate only the paragraph about deadlines.
Use the tool aboveWhat it will not do
- It doesn't keep the page layout. Expect text, not a lookalike PDF.
- It can't read scanned PDFs or photos of pages. There's no OCR, so you get "No text found".
- Password-protected files must be re-saved without the password first.
- It won't translate a whole long file in one answer. Use page ranges.
- Translations can be wrong, especially legal and technical terms. Check the cited page for anything that matters.
What does it cost, and what leaves my device?
Each translation message costs 5 Gems on Claude Haiku 4.5, and the cost is shown before you run it. A file in four ranges means four messages. New accounts start with 30 Gems. See pricing for packs and plans.
The PDF, or the range you picked, is uploaded to the model provider you chose. Don't send a document that shouldn't leave your device.
Questions about Translate PDF text into 12 languages
Does the translated PDF keep the original layout?
No. You get translated text with headings and lists kept, but not the columns, tables as drawn or page design. If you need a lookalike document, you'll have to rebuild the layout yourself.
How many pages can I translate at once?
It depends on the words. One answer is capped at about 1,500 words, so pick ranges like pages 1-5, then 6-10. Dense pages may need smaller ranges. The tool shows the cost before each run.
Which languages can I translate a PDF into?
Your app language or one of 12: English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese and Japanese. Pick the target before you run the translation.
Can it translate a scanned PDF?
No. Scans are images, and there's no OCR, so the model sees no text and the tool says "No text found". It works on PDFs where you can select and copy the text.
How much does translating a PDF cost?
Translation defaults to Claude Haiku 4.5 at 5 Gems per message, and you see that before you run it. A long file in several ranges costs 5 Gems per range.
