What can I do with a PDF here?
There are two kinds of jobs, and they work differently.
AI jobs send the PDF to the chat model you picked. The model reads the text layer and the answer streams in. You can chat with the file, summarize it, translate it, pull tables out as CSV, get a contract or bill explained in plain language, make study notes, or compare two PDFs. Each message costs Gems, and the cost is shown before you run it.
Page tools run in your browser. You can merge PDFs (and add JPG or PNG images as pages), or select, rotate, delete, move, extract and split pages. They cost no Gems and files up to 50 MB work.

What it does not do
- No OCR. Scanned PDFs and photos of pages show "No text found" and the AI can't read them.
- Password-protected PDFs must be opened and re-saved without the password first. We can't remove passwords.
- AI jobs take about 5.7 MB per PDF. A PDF counts as roughly 6,000 input tokens, so very long files get cut or refused. Pick a page range for those.
- It doesn't edit text inside a PDF, fill forms, compress files or sign them.
- Answers can be wrong. Check the cited page.
What leaves your device?
AI jobs upload the file to the model provider you picked, and the whole file is sent again with every message. If a document shouldn't go to a model provider, don't use an AI job on it.
The page tools (merge and split) upload nothing. They run in your browser and make no network calls. You can confirm that in your browser's Network tab.

Are the AI PDF tools free?
The page tools (merge, split, rotate, delete) are free and use no Gems. AI jobs cost Gems per message: 1 on fast models, 5 on smart ones. New accounts start with 30 Gems, and you see the cost before you run anything.
Can the AI read a scanned PDF?
No. There is no OCR. The model reads the text layer, so a scan or a photo of a page gives "No text found". If you can select and copy text in your PDF viewer, the AI can read it.
Is my PDF uploaded?
For AI jobs, yes: the file goes to the model provider you picked, and is re-sent with each message. For merge and split, no. Those run in your browser with no network calls, which you can check in the Network tab.
How big can the PDF be?
AI jobs accept about 5.7 MB per PDF, and very long documents may be cut or refused, so choose a page range. The free merge and split tools handle files up to 50 MB, since they run on your device.
Do I need an account to use it?
The web app may ask you to sign in with email or Google before the tool opens. New accounts start with 30 Gems, which covers a good number of 1 Gem questions or a few 5 Gem jobs.
